Yes, I bought it today, despite [livejournal.com profile] gunnhildr 's warnings of crappiness (if it helps, it was an eeny-meeny-miney-mo between that and God of War 3). Not very far into it yet (I just got control of the wimpy-looking androgynous boy-teen who I'm assuming will be the main character), but here's my thoughts so far.

What I'm liking:

Pretty, pretty Snow.
Cute little chicobo. :3
Bouncing, hard-to-miss treasure chests.
Was that Shiva in the opening movie? If so nice redesign.

What I'm not liking:

So noisy! Had to turn the subtitles on so I could catch the dialogue.
Seems a bit easy (although it could just be breaking me in softly).
The music so far. Why so bland? :(
That kid who looks like Naruto. /irrational

omg

Was looking for something and Google linked me to the Penny Arcade forum, where I happened upon this:

FFVIII is like Japanese Harry Potter.

Squall is a dark-haired, orphaned teen with a scar on his face that goes to a magical school where he meets his blond-haired dickbag rival (who has two moderately retarded henchmen). He also has a group of friends that consist of one mildly retarded boy and a bookish girl who is basically way smarter than everyone at everything. They meet a bunch of other teens who are varying degrees of useless and add them to their super duper teen save the world squad to fight the big evil magical baddie and save the day.

...Alright so Selphie, Irvine and Rinoa don't have direct Potter analogues but Squall is totally Harry, Seifer is Draco, Fujin and Raijin are Crabbe and Goyle, Quistis is Hermione and Zell is Ron.

I have way too much time on my hands today.

So adding to this, Irvine's Neville, Selphie's Luna and Rinoa's NaginiGinny... IT'S ALL SO CLEAR NOW :O

...*dead*

Is it weird that my ISP hasn't billed me since I signed up with them? I supposedly had 3 months free, but I switched in May. Checked on their website, and apparently I owe them nothing, so it's not that the payment isn't going through or anything.

*hopes his noticing doesn't mean the free internet goes away*

In other news, I think I'm nearly finished the story mode in Dissidia now. Still liking it... while the story itself's pretty much just self-indulgent wank and the dialog's corny as all hell, the voice acting is spot on, the characters all have nicely distinct fighting styles and the gameplay's good for a fighting game - the RPG elements make it a lot less of a button masher than most. Favourite fighters at the moment are probably Bartz, Zidane, David BowieEmperor Mateus and Kefka, and I'm really relieved about the latter... when I first tried him his attack style was driving me barmy but now I know what I'm doing it turns out he rules as much as he should. Sephiroth and Cloud are pretty much meh, which didn't see coming with the amount Squeenix seems to love FF7. :O

So yeah... probably going to get a lot more life out of this one. :>

Couldn't get on LJ yesterday (went through Durham to buy Dissidia, met Charlotte, wasted entire day playing games with her, Eve & Ed, then stayed too long to get a bus back and slept over) so you're getting the last 2 in one go...

For one week, recommend/share:

Day one: a song
Day two: a picture
Day three: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day four: a site
Day five: a youtube clip
Day six: a quote - A lot of people think right-wingers aren't capable of being amusing at all. Not true. Mussolini looked hilarious swinging from that lamppost. -- Charlie Brooker
Day seven: whatever tickles your fancy - I be hungry...

In other news, Dissidia seems pretty fun so far, and Kefka's VA is perfect. And in the end, isn't that all that matters? :>

Recalling his happy words makes me long for Kingdom Hearts II: Final Fantasy VII Mix, in which all Disney characters have been removed, and the Final Fantasy characters inhabit Disney worlds all alone, where every dialogue consists of the single line "He will awaken soon," spoken by a computer program, repeated, and the bonus Blu-ray includes a mini-application you can load onto your PlayStation 3's hard drive -- which, when activated, will place a real-time, internet-enabled picture-in-picture window in the upper-right corner of the screen, which will show the current state of Tetsuya Nomura's glistening, mumbling lips as he drools while listening to Gackt.

Really interesting review of FFXII / essay on Square - old, but worth reading nonetheless (ditto his Mother 3 one).

Ugh...

Been trying to make an iconset of the FFXII Espers, but it's not going very well - why are the only decent pictures of them in such boring poses?

Managed to get Cúchulainn and Ultima done anyway, and I think Chaos and Zodiark might be workable. The rest though... :|

So far (hopefully to be updated) :

Heehee...

Just listening to the third Black Mages album, and I'm fairly certain the arrangement of the FFVI opera has Celes singing about her devotion to Ultros. :>

OK, it probably doesn't really - I just heard "たこ" somewhere in there (wasn't really listening to the lyrics), and took it to mean "octopus" (蛸). It was probably "really happy" (多幸) though, thinking about it... ^^;

Sod the Tournesol for now: http://www.portalprelude.com/download.php :D

EDIT: On Level 5 so far - OMG it's hard DDD:
saviourseph: (hatehatehate)
I had the bright idea yesterday of going back to my "do everything" file of FFXII to try and get the Tournesol (strongest greatsword in the game), which basically entails getting 3 each of 3 rare items and then selling them. Sounds easy enough...

Problem is that the items are so rare that they DON'T EVEN EXIST - I have to go to the four corners of the world searching for other rare items, some of which I've never had at any point and had no idea they were even in the game they're that hard to get hold of, and then sell those in set quantities to make the things I'm actually after magically appear in the shop. Fun.

Anyway, putting this here so I can remember what I still need to get:

Gemsteel - still need 2 x Scarletite (from the big green no-neck tortoises).
Empyreal Soul - still need 2x Soul Powder (steal from the toothy bastards in the hard bit of the mines) and 2x High Arcana (from the lemonade balls Leamonde Entites), or if I give up getting the High Arcanas: 2 x Soul of Thamasa, (from the purple magic stealers in Nabudis).

-_-

EDIT - managed to get the High Arcanas easy enough (10 minutes chaining Dustia) but decided to kill 2 birds with one Gemsteel and get the Masamune at the same time. Also, remembered I got a Gemsteel & Empyreal Soul off Montblanc ages ago, so less collecting needed. :D So; revised list:

1 x Scarletite, from green tortoise things
1 x Soul Powder, from toothy reapers
1 x Mallet, from bombs at the top of the Pharos

Hopefully it won't take much longer...

Oh, while I'm on: would there be any interest if I uploaded what Siouxsie & the Banshees I have (I would just go ahead and do it, but seeing as there's like 14 albums it's a pretty hefty upload and I want to be sure first...

In which me & Basch from FFXII were fighting some guy (him with the Zodiac Spear, me with a very gaudy trident that eventually ended up skewering the guy through the ribs), all the while being attacked by a swarm of budgies.

Which apparently has something to do with the creative slump I've been in recently. O_o

...

I really fail to see how dream meaning books come up with their answers most of the time.

Actually, maybe it's telling me to play Revenant Wings and I might get some inspiration? Oh well...

From [livejournal.com profile] seris:

What Paul Means

You are influential and persuasive. You tend to have a lot of power over people.
Generally, you use your powers for good. You excel at solving other people's problems.
Occasionally, you do get a little selfish and persuade people to do things that are only in your interest.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are a very lucky person. Things just always seem to go your way.
And because you're so lucky, you don't really have a lot of worries. You just hope for the best in life.
You're sometimes a little guilty of being greedy. Spread your luck around a little to people who need it.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

Okaaay... O_o

I think I might be getting towards the end of FFXII now - just beat Cid (who is my new favourite Cid of all the games - sorry Highwind :D ) and apparently I've got to go through an area I wandered into earlier that completely kicked my arse (got another 15 levels on my side now though, so I should be fine ^^; ). Something tells me they weren't really thinking things through difficulty-wise; the 2 bosses before Cid put up a decent fight (especially that damn multiplying ghost thing), and I nearly got wiped out by field enemies going through the labs, but Cid was a complete pushover :-/

Anyway I'm really liking it so far - not sure why I've heard so much negative about it (although I guess there's a chance for things to get crap still).
saviourseph: (Crazy)
Oh well, it looks like the xmas presents won't be a surprise after all - they made me write what was in them on a customs sticker. :(

Try not to read the stickers, 'k guys? :)

Oh, and I don't know why I was worrying about the Demon Wall now - completely easy (yay!, although it's a shame games are getting so easy: the one in FFIV killed me more times than I care to count; FFVII's wasn't too bad but annoying; this one I just went in with standard gambits set and hack & slashed it down no bother at all (apart from Balthier getting X-Zoned, but that didn't even matter much)).
