Being as it is 12 years to the day* since Matthew Shepard was murdered I feel like I should make some sort of post about this, but unfortunately I can't concentrate due to being horribly ill (fever, headache, achy neck and tonsilitis so bad it looked like there was a gaping necrotic hole there to my untrained eye). GLAAD's post today and the links it provides will have to do in the meantime (and I'm sure someone will have a post far more read-worthy than anything I could produce up before you know it -
sparkindarkness maybe? He's good at those).
*takes more antibiotics and wishes for the hurtiness to go away*
*which is apparently more than long enough for it to become joke-appropriate material, but I'm not going to think about that as it will just end up with me flying to Montana and getting life
ETA: I knew I could count on you, Sparky. <3

And on a related note:

dr4win9f00l has decided to take contact details of anyone who wants to lend a supportive ear to LGBTQ people dealing with bullying & confusion. If you're willing to lend a hand, get a y!Gallery account if you don't have one and comment here with your contact details - if he gets enough interest he could make this a proper thing.

Spirit Day

neo_prodigy at Spirit Day
It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.
RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. (bottom)
REBLOG to spread a message of love, unity and peace.

Dear person on Twitter who I'm not even sure who you are but we're following each other for some reason: I don't care about the "intention" behind it. "Gay" meaning "rubbish" grew out of homophobia, and its use is offensive. And don't fall back on "MY GAY FRIENDS USE IT TOOOO" because I don't care.
(Posting here because I've decided to walk away from the conversation as a hopeless one. I stayed calm, but I won't be able to keep it that way and don't want a fight)
