Yes, I bought it today, despite [livejournal.com profile] gunnhildr 's warnings of crappiness (if it helps, it was an eeny-meeny-miney-mo between that and God of War 3). Not very far into it yet (I just got control of the wimpy-looking androgynous boy-teen who I'm assuming will be the main character), but here's my thoughts so far.

What I'm liking:

Pretty, pretty Snow.
Cute little chicobo. :3
Bouncing, hard-to-miss treasure chests.
Was that Shiva in the opening movie? If so nice redesign.

What I'm not liking:

So noisy! Had to turn the subtitles on so I could catch the dialogue.
Seems a bit easy (although it could just be breaking me in softly).
The music so far. Why so bland? :(
That kid who looks like Naruto. /irrational

@British people: watch.

@Rest-of-world people: keep an eye on this until it shows up, then watch (stupid iPlayer...).

That is all. :D

Pity he couldn't get Yahtzee on though... at least he tried. :(

Is it weird that my ISP hasn't billed me since I signed up with them? I supposedly had 3 months free, but I switched in May. Checked on their website, and apparently I owe them nothing, so it's not that the payment isn't going through or anything.

*hopes his noticing doesn't mean the free internet goes away*

In other news, I think I'm nearly finished the story mode in Dissidia now. Still liking it... while the story itself's pretty much just self-indulgent wank and the dialog's corny as all hell, the voice acting is spot on, the characters all have nicely distinct fighting styles and the gameplay's good for a fighting game - the RPG elements make it a lot less of a button masher than most. Favourite fighters at the moment are probably Bartz, Zidane, David BowieEmperor Mateus and Kefka, and I'm really relieved about the latter... when I first tried him his attack style was driving me barmy but now I know what I'm doing it turns out he rules as much as he should. Sephiroth and Cloud are pretty much meh, which didn't see coming with the amount Squeenix seems to love FF7. :O

So yeah... probably going to get a lot more life out of this one. :>

Couldn't get on LJ yesterday (went through Durham to buy Dissidia, met Charlotte, wasted entire day playing games with her, Eve & Ed, then stayed too long to get a bus back and slept over) so you're getting the last 2 in one go...

For one week, recommend/share:

Day one: a song
Day two: a picture
Day three: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day four: a site
Day five: a youtube clip
Day six: a quote - A lot of people think right-wingers aren't capable of being amusing at all. Not true. Mussolini looked hilarious swinging from that lamppost. -- Charlie Brooker
Day seven: whatever tickles your fancy - I be hungry...

In other news, Dissidia seems pretty fun so far, and Kefka's VA is perfect. And in the end, isn't that all that matters? :>

Audiosurf scoreboard alert - Dethroned!

You used to have the worldwide best score for: always (2009 mix) by erasure

Now the Audiosurf player 'Burt Gummer[GER]' has beaten you. Get back in the game and reclaim the top spot!

Right... I'll show you, Mr. random German guy. >:[

Seeing as the original has been taken down due to whiny religious types complaining I thought I'd do my bit in putting up a mirror of Faith Fighter. Streisand effect FTW.

Should anyone reading this have a couple of megs of webspace they'd dedicate to promoting free speech, it'd be nice if they could mirror it too (a copy of the SWF and HTML I used is available here). :)

Apparently it was the lamp screwing with the Wii - I turned it off and now it's working perfectly, even from the other side of the room. :>

Anyway, up to the Arbiter's Grounds now... time for a rousing game of Zombie Pinball. <3 srsly, if someone expanded the Stallord battle into a full game I'd buy it in a second.

BBC NEWS | UK | Children out late 'unacceptable': How long before she decides a curfew law is the order of the day, I wonder?

Also, Wii help needed - I was playing TP last night and the Wiimote started spacking out, making the pointer bounce all over the screen (and telling me to point it at the screen, even though I was) - wouldn't've really mattered except I was up to that bit where you have to fly up the river to kill the bugs and it kind of made it impossible. Anyone know what might be wrong and how to fix it?

The network card appears to be working as it should :D As it turns out, PEBCAK - apparently there was an "Act like a retard and switch the card off whenever I feel like it" option tucked away in the device settings I never noticed until yesterday - what the fuck kind of half-arsed OS even puts that option in in the first place, let alone makes it default and hides the way to fix it? O_o.

Anyway, yay! Now to get used to TF2's controls on the PC (everything feels so strange & unfamiliar after being confined to playing it the PS3) D:

From [livejournal.com profile] speedlight:

1) What was your FIRST video game console?
A bright orange Odyssey clone with Pong and several variants thereof. I think it worked about twice before giving up the ghost.

2) Name a few games you played on said console.
See above.

3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
PS3, Wii, 2 PS2s, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Saturn, Megadrive, SNES & (broken) NES. All in the cupboard apart form the PS3, Wii & PS2s though.

4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
Always preferred MK to be honest.

5) If you think Capcom is a FUCKING awesome company with kickass character designs?
They're OK.

6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
Frogmarch to sink time.

7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG? I will allow a second and third fave if you insist.
Final Fantasy VI (lol predictable)

8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
Don't really have a preference, but I like the amount of detail it's possible to get in 2D pictures rather than havng to sacrifice for polygon counts in 3D. Becoming less of an issue now though.

9) Are you an SNK fan?
Not really.

9) Are you good at DDR?
No, but I rule at Donkey Konga.

10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
People who are shite with light guns.

11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
Don't be silly.

12) Do you listen to video game music?
Some - mostly Silent Hill & Masafumi Takada's stuff.

13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character..?
No.

14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
No.

15) Name three games you would love to see remakes of if it was done properly.
I'd prefer decent new games than clinging onto past successes.

16) Mario or Sonic?
Sonic, although the 3D ones are shite.

17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use SpiderMan as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
Hell no.

18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
Sports - what's the point?

19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love?
killer7

20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
Too many to mention.

21) Do you own any VG apparel?
A t-shirt with GLaDOS on it, and I used to have a NES pad wallet.

22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
Ugh.

23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
So bad it's hilarious.

24) Who hottest out of the KOF chicks?
Terry Bogard.

25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
No.

26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
Yes. :(

27) Do you own any imported games?
The KH final mixes and assorted SNES/SFC games.

28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
Not bothered.

29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where? This can be simple or elaborate.
I most likely wouldn't, unless it was something I could work into another design and make look good.

30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
Teared up quite a bit, but never cried that I recall.

Only up to level 14 on Portal: Prelude so far. D:

Granted I've been playing less than 2 hours according to Xfire, but still... I completed Portal itself in around 3 hours on my first playthrough - assuming level 19 goes on as long as the original did I'm severely behind schedule here.

So far I'm feeling pretty mixed about it. It's nice that someone's put so much effort into it, making a full unofficial prequel rather than just a plain level pack, and some of the levels so far have been really fun; nice, simple concepts with non-obvious but doable solutions. Others, on the other hand, are just plain cheap, forgoing actual puzzles in lieu of twitchy reflex nonsense based more on luck than thinking things out. Hopefully this won't apply much more - it's a lot more fun when you don't have to worry about niggles like getting a jump completely perfect, or shooting the floor 5 damn times to fling yourself far enough. In short; liking it, but preferring some of the standalone fan maps so far (This one in particular).

Also, the damn orange dye won't bleach out; hair is currently (as predicted) a streaky mix of blond and pastel pink. I can make it look better with the red gel until it's safe to bleach again though, I suppose. ^^;
