Good idea/BEST idea?
Sep. 9th, 2010 10:58 pmHow does using a flan case, marmalade and chocolate to make THE WORLD'S BIGGEST JAFFA CAKE™ sound?
*adds items to next week's shopping list*
ETA Turns out many people have done the same. Some to even more dramatic ends (lol "Jaffa Quake")

GIANT HUMAN HEART WITH EYES <3
Mar. 25th, 2009 09:34 pmAs an offshoot of Plan Never-Go-To-ASDA-Again-Ever I ended up visiting the Laing Gallery today (I was mainly in Newcastle to go to the Chinese supermarket, but thought I'd have a bit of a look around first) - really liked the Surface Reality display they have on at the moment (where the piece mentioned in the title was; I can't remember the real title but I think I covered it pretty well :> ). Also quite chuffed at seeing a Henry Moore on the way in, as he's probably my favourite sculptor. :D
Less chuffed at paying £2.20 for a coffee in there, but meh... it's free entry, so they have to recoup their expenses somehow.

Prepare for fail...
Mar. 7th, 2009 05:50 pm*prepares for tonight's kitchen adventures to go spectacularly tits-up, as his mother decided she liked the sound of what he was making and asked him to bring some over for her tomorrow* D:
Not that worried really (how wrong can borshch go?), but still... if anything will jinx it, other people to feed will...
ETA: done cooking and all's well. Now all that remains is to make sure it survives the night and subsequent journey. :D

Just checking in to say I'm not dead, but probably won't get on AIM tonight due to being unable to hold my eyes open for more than 10 seconds at a time.
I'm mourning the fact my usual coffee shop has switched to stupid thin paper cups that burn your hands rather than the nice corrugated heat-dissipating ones they used to have. Oh well; at least they didn't "close temporarily due to flooding" never to return like the (much nicer and complimentary-amaretti-providing) other one. :(
Also cocks.

Does anyone know for sure whether it's OK for cats to eat chilies?
I only ask because Boris is in the kitchen helping himself to the rather plentiful leftovers of the chicken phaal (very hot Bangladeshi curry) I made earlier - he loves super-spicy food, but I really hope it's not going to do him any damage, the amount he eats. D:
Then again, it's probably doing just as much damage to me, so...

Traffic Light Chili con Carne
1/2lb beef mince
1/2 tin kidney beans
1 habanero chili, roughly chopped
3 manzano chilies, roughly chopped
6 bird's eye chilies, roughly chopped
seeds from the above
1 tbsp hot chili powder
small lump of galangal, crushed
1 clove garlic, crushed
small carton tomato purée
juice of 1 lime
long-grain rice
Mix chili powder into tomato purée. Dry fry mince with chili seeds, galangal, garlic & lime juice until brown, then add tomato purée/chili powder mix, chilies & kidney beans. Reduce, leave simmering until ready for it and serve with rice.
Brings delicious pain to one greedy bastard (and one very greedy cat who surprised me by loving it).

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Bold and cross out any items you never would again
( Probably shouldn't've done this when I was hungry... )
