I knew I should have binned that ruptured laptop battery. Damn my concern for the environment stopping me from doing so. One of the cells finally burst and let out a load of gas. I've moved Aragog into the bedroom so he's as far away as possible, but I'm still kind of worried - it's probably not a good thing to have unknown gases floating around a flat that I can't ventilate for fear of the cat escaping.

Any idea what it would be, and whether it's harmful or not? It was a Lithium Ion battery from a Macbook Pro, and the gas kind of smells like methanol, if that helps.

Laptop problem growing; now I'm starting to get random freezes. Purely a graphical issue (the computer's still running under the frozen screen - one happened yesterday while I was watching iPlayer and the sound didn't stop), but there's no way to get control back without resetting, and it's only a matter of time before reset without shutdown ends in disaster.

Bollocks. D:

I just looked and my left propeller key's got a split right down the middle. HOW? D:

A replacement keyboard's going to cost like £50. Seeing as the laptop's on its last legs anyway (the screen corruption problem's not going away) I think I can manage for now - money'd be better put towards a Hackintosh-capable mobo (not got the cash for a new real Mac atm, but since Snow Leopard came out it's apparently really easy to roll your own now).

I think the laptop's graphics card is about to go nipples-skyward... getting the weird lines & Technicolor rectangles more than ever. Probably time to start saving up for a new computer (ideally a Mac Pro - tower so better cooling and not laptop-based like iMacs so proper, replaceable graphics card).

Fuck. D:

Mainly @[livejournal.com profile] gunnhildr, but linking in case there's any other Mac users who hate the official MSN & Adium and would rather do everything through iChat.

An easy to follow guide on setting up a local XMPP server for using MSN, YIM etc. through iChat.

Thanks to the free printer I got today (thank you Aaron for being too lazy to set it up and giving it to me 8D ) I finally managed to print out some of the sheet music I've been storing up on the laptop but never got round to printing.

Initial sight-run of the Treno music from FFIX went well - hopefully I'll have it fit to record in a few days. (I think I'll post some of the other stuff I've been working on too)

Still not sure about the Chrome-style titlebar tabs (and very unsure about the new tab button being where the tic-tac belongs - top-right click should hide/show the toolbar :/ ) and definitely not a fan of them doing away with the stop/reload button and progress bar in favour of a non-obvious spinny thing/curly arrow in the URL bar, but it does feel a hell of a lot faster now, and the speed dial they've added is very nice - like Opera, only more Maccish. I'm really liking how they've used Core Animation; drag a tab away from the window and it morphs into a thumbnail that'll grow into a window when released; click on a speed-dial preview and it scales & fades into the full thing - it's all very polished. Love the improvements in the search box too - no need for Inquisitor anymore (the less extensions needed the better).

In short: I think I'll end up sticking with this release, at least for now; while it'll probably take a while for the new tab bar location to sink in, but the not-insignificant speed increase and improvements elsewhere make up for it.

Still having trouble with the computer - It's a couple of issues - a failing external HD (which I should really replace seeing as it has my system backups, movies and photos on it D: ) and a whole load of system clutter from the old version of the OS and crap I don't use (I recently freed up about 10GB just by sorting out my apps folder, but there's probably a whole load of other crap). I really should do a reinstall, but the CDROM drive's fucked (thank you Matsushita for making such quality products >:[ ), which means buying an external one (be cheaper than getting one that'll fit inside, not to mention easier) before I even start. :|

Anyway, I made a couple of icons of the very lickable Logan McCree (if there was ever a bridge between porn and art, he would be it <3 ). Feel free to take should you so desire :)

Hmm.. I think my webcam might need cleaning or something - everything seems to be coming out with gaussian blur already applied :/

According to the site the most recent version fixed the memory leak problem, so hopefully the duck is back for good :)

I was missing it, really - apart from iChat restricting me to AIM and Jabber (meaning having to load the fugly & slow MS Messenger client whenever I wanted to talk to MSN people) I just like the customisation Adium allows for (CSS styled chats and Weighted Companion Cube dock icon FTW :) )

Now to look for some decent chat themes...

Finally got lured away from Safari D:

Firefox isn't as fast or streamlined as I'm used to, but all the lovely extensions really make up for it - Safari isn't exactly the most extendable program out there. Also, it means I don't need a separate LJ client - the combination of Deepest Sender & LiveJournal Addons more than replaces iJournal :)

k... I found out my new phone number the other day, and told Tiscali, so they'll be transferring the broadband over now (probably be another week or so).

I bought Leopard yesterday, and so far it seems pretty nice (I made a backup just in case, but it turned out I didn't need it - everything survived the upgrade OK :) ). I'm having slight trouble with Apache, but it should be simple to sort it out when I get home and haven't got quite so much sake in me :)

Oh, and I got a new coat - it's full length black leather, and it's really billowy & dramatic-looking... I'll post pics when I get the chance :D

Yay!

There's a new version of ShapeShifter just came out that fixed my 2 main problems with it (no support for Safari 3 and some menus not getting recoloured properly). Finally I can go back to my pretty, milk-themed desktop (I stopped using it when Safari stopped getting themed, as having a great big ugly brushed metal window looked pretty crap next to all the nice shiny white ones). iTunes still doesn't get themed, but that's down to the guy who wrote the theme, not ShapeShifter.
