Decided to get rid of iTunes in favour of a music player that isn't huge, bloated, slow and ugly. Finally settled on the Zune software (seriously, when did Microsoft start making nice software? First Windows 7, then IE9 which I would consider using if it had extensions, now this... I'm shocked) as it's both snappy and OMG pretty (see?). HOWEVER, when I moved my music out of the nest of iTunes folders all hell broke loose... half my tags seemed to vanish into the ether, along with a tonne of album art (I thought iTunes embedded that in the file?) and now my music collection is, to put it lightly, a great big fucking mess. So I'm taking this opportunity to clear out some of the stuff I never listen to and tag the stuff I actually do properly (yes, even genres).

...this is going to take a while.

Going by the amount of worlds in the other games I'm guessing I'm around halfway through Terra's story in Birth by Sleep now. Really enjoying this game - love the new battle system, and it's nice to have a bunch of worlds that haven't appeared in the series before to explore.

HOWEVER...

I think it's trying to drive me crazy. Listen to the following excerpts from the soundtrack and tremble. TREMBLE.

Cut for sanity's sake... )

How come I can never think of this song:

Without going into this one about halfway through:

 Dammit, brain!

Yeah, this should have been 3 posts... I suck like that.

Day 28. A song that makes you feel guilty - Whistle for the Choir by The Fratellis

Not quite sure why, but then "inexplicably guilty" is probably my most common emotion. ^^;

Day 29. A song from your childhood - The Only Way Is Up by Yazz and the Plastic Population

Woo late 80s!

Day 30. Your favourite song at this time last year - In Cairo by Hot Hot Heat

(according to last.fm)

Day 27. A song that you wish you could play - Liebestraum No. 3 by Franz Liszt

Ah, Liszt... how I both love and loathe thee. Such beautiful music; possibly my favourite composer (albeit with serious competition from Debussy and Tchaikovsky), but difficult enough to drive a person to tears. I can almost play Liebestraum No. 3, if it wasn't for the two EVIL cadenzas between the main passages - I always fuck up there. I'm sure I'll get there eventually though, with enough practice.

Day 25. A song that makes you laugh - Oh Bondage Up Yours by X-Ray Spex

A nice bit of classic punk today. Poly Styrene always manages to get a smile on my face.

Day 26. A song that you can play on an instrument - Superman by Goldfinger

Kind of spoiled for choice for stuff I can play on piano, so I thought I'd choose something i can manage on bass instead. I love ska-punk for its basslines - really energetic and fun to play.

Day 24. A song that you want to play at your funeral - Still Alive by GLaDOS and Jonathan Coulton

No contest, really - I doubt the "have my corpse packed with fireworks to be detonated at the beginning of the chorus of It's Raining Men" plan would be doable, after all. :C

Day 23. A song that you want to play at your wedding - Comrade Z by DeVotchKa

I'm not really the marrying type, so have this lovely bouncy tune instead. Which would probably work well in a wedding reception come to think of it, so yay. :D

Day 22. A song that you listen to when you're sad- Desolation Row by Bob Dylan

So hard to find this on YouTube... no sign of the original at all, and no way in hell I was going to use that POS those emo fuckwits did for Watchmen.  So in the absence of Dylan, have the Grateful Dead's version. I'm still putting it down as the original though, as that was my intention.

I really love this song - while the lyrics make little to no sense a lot of the time, it still manages to keep a coherent narrative. If anything, the random, disjointed imagery makes it even more evocative.

Day 20. A song that you listen to when you're angry - Pigs Will Pay by Propagandhi

Very good at turning unfocused anger into the good, constructive type, this band's music.

Day 21. A song that you listen to when you're happy - In the Middle of Nowhere by Dusty Springfield

One from my "Songs to clean the flat to" playlist. :D

Why yes, using Twitter as a medium to sing Mulan songs is the most productive use of the Internet possible.

ILU guys. <3

Too tired to do the music meme right now (and also still got Dragostea Din Tei in my head distracting me from all rational thought - tyvm, [livejournal.com profile] daveisdead >:[ ) - I'll catch up tomorrow.

Day 19. A song from your favourite album - Life on Mars? by David Bowie

Have to link this one, as YouTube's twatty and has disabled embed for the video.

Hunky Dory... amazing album. ♥

Day 18. A song that you wish you heard on the radio - Resurgence by Cyanotic

We're seriously lacking in radio stations that play good industrial and metal here. There's Kerrang!, but they only play old stuff everyone's heard a million times before and crappy rock-pop, and there's Bruce Dickinson's show on 6Music which is pretty decent but is only one three hour slot per week - apart from that, nada. :(

At least there's always Internet radio and podcasts...

Day 16. A song that you used to love but now hate - Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis

Not so much "used to love" as "used to quite like" as I can't think of anything that fits the former description, but it'll have to do. Ah, Oasis... how my early teenage self quite liked thee, before he realised all your songs sound the damn same and your most prominent members are a big enough pair of tits to make Lolo Ferrari jealous.

Day 17. A song that you hear often on the radio - Giving Up the Gun by Vampire Weekend

Not listened to the radio in a bit, but this song was never off 6Music not long back.

Day 15. A song that describes you - I'm Mr. White Christmas by Snow Miser

Yes, yes, I'm a day late... I would have posted last night but what was supposed to be a quick nap ended up as me sleeping all the way through til 5 this morning. D:

Anyway, this is the point of the meme where I'm supposed to get all introspective and navel-gazey, but fuck it... it's too early in the morning for that shit. So have instead an ode to my hatred of the heat - lol at my delicate Irish skin that can't handle any weather that isn't cold and damp. Me and Snow Miser are kindred spirits, srs.

Day 14. A song that no one would expect you to love - U.N.I.T.Y. by Queen Latifah

I don't really know what others expect me to like, so I wasn't sure what to post for this one. I've said in the past I like pretty much everything except for country and rap though, so I figured something from one of the few rap artists I love would do.

Also worthy of note: despite my being queer, I have something of a crush on her. Latifah's just that awesome.
