I came in from shopping a few hours ago to be met with this:

"Wait a minute!", I hear you say, "that spider's upside down!".

Indeed. Which could mean only one thing:

THE MOULT HAD BEGUN!

And finally (old skin removed from the tank):

Still waiting for hir to flip back the right way so I can take a picture of hir shiny new back, but there you go - the moulting process of a Chilean Rose tarantula. :D

Sorry... I hoped having one, relatively tame pic above the cut would deter anyone who would get traumatised. ^^;

They see me moultin'. They hatin'.

Sweet spider.

You got any other creepy crawlies? When I was younger, my father had hissing cockroaches and a giant Tanzanian millipede. Fun times.

Just the spider currently (although I'm wanting to get another one, possibly a Mexican Red-knee when I can afford it). Oh, and a tank of around 40 crickets, but they're feeders, not pets.

A giant millipede sounds like it could be interesting... stop giving me ideas. ;)

You gotta watch out for those giant millipedes though. They actually can secrete hydrochloric when threatened. Badass creatures.

Not a spider fan (it's funny, I'm fine with holding millipedes giant cockroaches but spiders make me go O_O</coolstory'mo>) and but omg ECDYSIS FUCK YEAH. I love seeing photos of molting in any invertebrate. :3

Also this is reminding me of a stupid inside joke me and a BF had (this was when we were both super-young): "Spiders have eight legs, so that means they have seven crotches, hurr hurr~~~~"

Yep; they're hir fangs. :)

Nothing really to worry about though - they're new after the moult and they'll be like rubber for the next few days.

Oh wow, that's facinating!

I love how the first couple look like the spider equivalent of stuggling out of a pair of jeans.
