And since you mentioned oppression, when was the last time a homosexual friend of yours was killed for his orientation? I understand the oppression the gay community faces, I truly do, but to compare it to people like Martin Burnham who literally was shot down when all he was trying to do was benefit those who were oppressing him... That's an entirely different level of oppression.

It could just be that I know more christians than I know homosexuals, but I've never gotten an email informing me that a homosexual was killed for his beliefs and yet I get all too many saying the same for christian martyrs. Comparing political and/or social oppression to martyrdom isn't exactly fair, now is it?
Yeah, I've had enough. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] _lysia_ , but I can't stay around there when it's getting me so worked up. I'm sure the other mods will pick up the slack in my absence.

Bye, LP. It's been real.

It's been on the cards for some time, if I'm honest - mostly revolving around the sexuality thread - so much moralising and hatred about something that really shouldn't be up for debate. Also, most of my favourite posters (Maz, EA, LTHLF, mintylim, Goldcut, Cid) have either left or barely post anymore - it just wasn't the same there. :(

That exchange wasn't anything particularly unique; it was just the last straw in a long line of problems.

Like I said, I'm sure the other mods will manage fine without me (although if you need more, I'll put in a suggestion for Stal - he's one of the most level-headed regular members and he's in Britain, so he'll cover the times I was around pretty much the same).

I read the topic and it didn't seem like that big a deal (I think I was expecting some sort of rage-filled post XD) but I understand. I'm sad that you'll be leaving, but I know what you mean about other members leaving too. It's normal in forum communities, especially ones that have been around for a few years, but it's always sad!

Thanks for the mod suggestion! If you recommend anyone else please let me know, I find it hard to keep up these days and usually the people I would trust and want to promote aren't so active themselves anymore >.
