Characters: Dilan, Xigbar. Implied Braig/Dilan (very slight)
Summary: Beware of fridge-portals.
Words: 431
“Come here quick! You’ve got to see this, dude!”
Dilan put down his book irritably, wondering what all the commotion was about. Hadn’t Braig just left the room a moment ago? What could he have found between here and the kitchen? Still, he couldn’t help but smile at the other man’s enthusiasm - it was probably the thing he liked most about him; a counter to his forever-stoic self.
“In a minute - just let me finish this first.”
“You don’t want to miss it, do you?”
“Fine.” Dilan grumped, standing up and slogging his way to the kitchen.
The lights were off, the only illumination provided by the dim bulb of the refrigerator. Still, Dilan had no trouble seeing what Braig wanted him so urgently for. Where once stood cans of beer and assorted fruit there was now a strange, purple-black...thing, tendrils of light emanating from it’s depths.
“Isn’t it like, the coolest thing ever?” Braig asked excitably.
“Well, it’s something alright. What is it? Where did it come from?”
“No clue, dude. Just went to get a brew and BAM! Monster in the fridge!”
Dilan wished he could see the other man’s face better. There was something… a bit off about him. He couldn’t say what, but he knew Braig wouldn’t have reacted like this - he’d be more likely to run screaming back to the sofa than just stand there. Although excitable and outgoing, the Braig he knew was cautious - certainly not one to stand around while clouds of darkness devoured the contents of the fridge. Could he be in shock? It was likely - something like this would probably send most people screaming over the edge.
But it was so entrancing - whatever it was! Every time he tried to look at his friend, his eyes got drawn back to the darkness. And was it growing? It certainly looked that way.
Dilan looked down, making a conscious effort not to look back into the cloud. It hadn’t grown bigger; he’d been steadily walking towards it, unaware. He staggered backwards in shock, suddenly wanting to grab Braig and flee. Something that could control you just by looking at it was something he didn’t want to mess with. Ever.
“I don’t like it, Braig. Please - come back into the living room and we can warn Ansem about it.”
Braig stepped out of the shadows, grinning blankly. He was different - it wasn’t just the attitude. His once-raven hair was streaked with grey, his amber eyes shining impassively in the dim yellow light.
“It’s Xigbar, dude.”
He pushed him into the darkness.
