Day 13. A song that is a guilty pleasure - S.O.S. by ABBA

One of the few ways in which I'm a big ol' live-the-stereotype queen - I fucking adore ABBA. My absolute favourite by them is probably The Day Before You Came or the unreleased-except-on-compilation-albums I Am The City, but out of their better known tracks it's S.O.S. all the way. The perfect example of the balance between bouncy and melancholy that was ABBA's signature. :D

Day 12. A song from a band you hate - How You Remind Me by Nickelback

Obvious choice? Probably. Sorry Canada, but I'll never forgive you for inflicting this dross upon the world. :(

Day 11. A song from your favourite band - Comfortably Numb by Scissor Sisters

I have too many favourite bands... had trouble deciding on one for this. I eventually chose Scissor Sisters because I can't think of a song by them I don't like - rare thing, that. If I was choosing my favourite song by them it would be Tits on the Radio or Intermission but being album tracks neither of those have videos to go with them, and besides, the Comfortably Numb video is just so pretty and fun. :D

Also, no offence meant to Pink Floyd fans by my posting this - the original (and indeed the whole of The Wall) is awesome too.

Day 10. A song that makes you fall asleep - Dodeccaheedron by Aphex Twin

A couple of problems today. Firstly, as an insomniac, I don't think there's any songs that could failsafe send me to sleep so I decided to go with one that just manages to relax me instead. Secondly, I couldn't find my original choice for this one on YouTube. Pity... it's always fun inflicting Merzbow on the unsuspecting. C:

Anyway, yeah... thought I'd go with one of Aphex Twin's calmer tracks instead. Very relaxing.

Now for today's entry into the music meme.

Day 09. A song that you can dance to - Believe by The Chemical Brothers

Image representing iTunes as depicted in Crunc...

Image via CrunchBase

When I moved over to Windows I installed iTunes, mainly for the sake of having something familiar around. Here's the thing though - I hate it. It's fugly (it doesn't fit into the desktop properly even on Mac, let alone Windows), it's slow, it uses too much CPU and it's obscenely huge and bloated for something as simple as a music player. So I'm looking for something to replace it. However, I'm kind of unfamiliar with Windows software, so I'm not sure what would be the best tool for the job.

There are some things I like about iTunes though - I wouldn't be using it otherwise. So, is there another Windows media player that has the following features?
  • Automatic playlist building based on genre a la Genius (shuffle doesn't really cut it with a music collection as fucked upeclectic as mine)
  • Last.fm support
  • Playback of m4p files (I only have a few, but I'd quite like to keep them around)
  • Automatic file organisation (sorting music you add into Artist/Album folders)
  • iPod syncing (not totally necessary as I was thinking of selling my iPod)
  • The option of a miniplayer so it's not taking up the entire screen
  • Able to handle huge music collections (>16k files)

Any suggestions?

Day 08. A song that you know all the words to - This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us by Sparks

This is me, showing off. :P

Timeless, awesome song - even being covered didn't ruin it (granted the cover was by Siouxsie and the Banshees, who I adore, but still...). And yes, I know all the words (and can play it on piano into the bargain). C:

Day 06. A song that reminds you of somewhere - Room of Angel by Akira Yamaoka/Mary Elizabeth McGlynn

It reminds me of my sister's old flat on Woodbine Terrace, which aside from looking like part of the SH2 Otherworld (lol slumlords) was where I first played Silent Hill 4. It was a horrible place, but I admit I kind of miss it - I spent more time there than I did at home (I lived a couple of streets away in an equally decrepit pit owned by the same landlord), sitting around playing games, listening to music, playing bass and getting stoned. Fun times, even though her flat was missing half the toilet floor and had walls virtually built out of damp and my place lacked a kitchen and hot water. :D

Day 05. A song that reminds you of someone - We Tigers by Animal Collective

Had a lot of trouble thinking of one for this prompt, likely because I'm such a misanthrope. C:

This song reminds me of the awesome[livejournal.com profile] mintylim who introduced me to this band. ILU Aud (and you'll be getting something for your recent birthday as soon as I have money. No way I'm ignoring your 21st, so no trying to dissuade me :P)

Day 03. A song that makes you happy - Oxyacetylene by Cubanate

A lovely bit of industrial techno today. IDK what it is about this band (and this song in particular), but they always seem to put me in a good mood. :)

Day 02. Your least favourite song - Fast Food Song by Fast Food Rockers

It's not that I particularly loathe the actual song (although it is remarkably crap), so much as the fact it manages to drill its way into my brain and annoy me all day if I hear so much as a bar of it.

Ever since I posted a story about an old man being imprisoned for raping a donkey (and a horse) on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political yesterday I've had this charming little ditty stuck in my head on permanent repeat... I thought I'd inflict it on you guysspread the fun. Enjoy!

Considering moving back to self-hosted Wordpress - I kind of miss it, and it's a much nicer platform to work from than LJ. Now I have a static IP address it'll be a much smaller PITA to deal with the DNS stuff too. Probably best to wait until I have a more stable computer though - can't be doing with the site barely being online.

Shouldn't mean much change here in any case - there's a nice plugin to crosspost stuff to LJ, so any real entries I may or may not make will get sent over here along with all the daft memes, Twitter roundups and writers block thingies.

In other news, got around to watching Final Destination 4 *steadfastly refuses to use confusing real name*. After the shitfest that was the third film I wasn't expecting much, but turned out to be pretty fun. :)
Also, getting a touch bored of my music collection... recsplz? (mainly looking at [livejournal.com profile] gunnhildr and [livejournal.com profile] alkazar as I'm in an industrial/metal-type mood as of late, but it's all good)

STEP 01 — Load up all your music in your music player and hit shuffle.
STEP 02 — Post the first line of the first 100 songs that pop up.
STEP 03 — Let everyone take a guess at the artist and song.
STEP 04 — ONLY CHEATERS USE GOOGLE!! D:<
STEP 05 — READY STEADY

From [livejournal.com profile] sarshin & [livejournal.com profile] taure:

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

Lemme tell you now, I came to bring the pain

I started watchin' them all down the line
The girl works at the store sweet Jane St. Clair
Bang it, bang it, bitch
Here comes the dirt bike
An imitation from New York
I won't forgive you
Hey yeah we had everything
Honey, Honey, how you thrill me
Magpie, was it you who stole the wedding ring?
She had an horror of rooms she was tired you can't hide beat
Si puer cum puellula moraretur in cellula
Every time I try to leave something keeps turning me back
Guess your dreams always end
Oh my baby baby
We took a walk that night, but it wasn't the same
You tell a joke and forget the punchline
Now that I'm a big star what am I gonna do?
Clever girl
What good is sitting alone in your room?
Who disco? Who techno? Who hip-hop? Who bebop?
saviourseph: Tingle (Zelda: The Wind Waker) (Music)
...or is the new song they added to LittleBigPlanet in the Monster stuff pack very similar to Katyusha? Similar to the point that it has me singing the latter as I'm playing. D:;

PETA Urges Phish To Become Sea Kittens

On Friday, PETA Special Projects Manager Michelle Cho issued a letter to area media outlets outlining a request that the band temporarily change its name to the "Sea Kittens."

The letter, addressed to Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon and Page McConnell, says the request is an attempt to gain empathy for fish, "because few people are aware that fish are actually smart animals with personalities."
