Several, but I'll go with The Shining as it's one of the few that isn't "HATEHATEHATE". While it's a terrible adaptation and about as faithful to the book as if it had been the My Little Pony Movie, I do think it manages to stand on its own merits - I love both.

I think The Shining was a great film adaptation. I mean, it was just that, an adaptation but it really captured the spirit of the book with some token alterations.

If anything, compare it to the later TV-miniseries adaptation that played the book straight, very straight. It dragged, was kinda languid, and lacked the tension or energy of the movie. That kind of book tension that King's so good at doesn't adapt to screen so well sometimes haha. It's telling that some of his best movie adaptations are from short stories as such.

Oh god, the miniseries was awful. D:

Comparing the eyegouging adaptation of the doorstop IT to, say, 1408 or Carrie (short story and novella respectively), this is very true.

Oh come on. Tim Curry is an amazingly hilarious eye-gouger!
